Direct dyes are also called substantive dyes because of their excellent substantively properties to cellulosic textile substances such as cotton and viscose rayon. These types of dyes are named after its ability to have direct similarity to cellulosic fibres, in an aqueous solution. Direct dyes are anionic dyes which may be applied to fibers directly out of an aqueous solution. These dyes have sulfonic acid groups (-SO3Na) which ensure that they are readily dissolvable in water. The dye coloration is done by the hydrogen bonding and van der Waals interactions between the dye and the fiber molecules.
substantive dyes normally carried out with the addition of sodium chloride (NaCl) or sodium sulfate (Na2SO4) or sodium carbonate (Na2CO3). Direct dyes are used on silk and nylon, cotton, leather, paper, wool. they are also used as pH indicators and as biological stains. We produce the supreme quality of synthetic food colors, pulp dyes, Acid Dyes, Solvent Dyes and Dyes Intermediates are applicable on leather, textile, wool, silk, fur, nylon and paper.

Based on migration test and salt control ability these dyes are classified as follows
Before dyeing, the fabric must be properly prepared to ensure the dye adheres uniformly.
Exhaust (Batch) Method : The dye bath is a dye-salt bath that holds the dye and salt (sodium chloride or sodium sulfate). Temperature is slowly increased to boiling (95 100 o C).Temperature is slowly increased to boiling (95 100oC). Hydrogen bonding and van der Waals forces are involved in fixing the dye onto the fiber.
Continuous (Pad-Dry or Pad-Steam) Method: The fabric is placed through a dye solution and squeezed between rollers to make sure that the dye is applied uniformly. It is after that dried or steamed to set the dye, after which it is washed and soaped.
After-Treatment (Optional): Cationic fixing agent can be used to enhance the fastness of wash and rub, in the dyed material.
